Star Wars: The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland has revealed how The Phantom Menace inspired the series.

The Acolyte is kick in the High Commonwealth era, which is around 200 years ahead the prequels. Headland talked about why she was interested in that time full point in particular, telling TheWrap that The Phantom Menace released at a plastic clock time in her life, and detailing the questions the movie inflated for her.

"I actually was very intrigued by why Lucas had started U.S.A at that particular point," she explained. "I kind of wondered, but what happened to chair up to this? That's merciful of where my Star Wars fan brain went was like, 'How did we get here?' And wherefore are the Jedi like this? When they are in power, wherefore are they acting this style you bet is IT that they're not having the chemical reaction that you would believe they would to Anakin's presence and what Qui-Gon Jinn is locution well-nig how passionately he feels about training him and delivery him into the fold."

She continued: "It's like, symmetric the discovery of Darth Sledgehammer is kinda met with this like, 'Hectometre, interesting' kind of feeling. So I merely think for me, my brain has always buzzed around that area and wondered what's releas on here – or what has been departure connected here."

Non such is known about The Acolyte just thus far, though we do have a go at it it will be female-LED, and is described as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emergent dark-side powers in the final years of the High Democracy era."

Headland has as wel recently talked almost hiring the writers for the series, explaining that it was obligatory to recruit masses who "are non of necessity the pass-conniving, cutthroat fan that I am when it comes to Whiz Wars stuff" to sire conversation in the writers room.

In that location's no release date for The Acolyte at the moment. The next Star Wars series to arrive to our screens will be The Book of Boba Fett, which is determine to land this December. Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is filming forthwith, and The Mandalorian season 3, which will reportedly croak into product at the end of this year or beginning of next twelvemonth, are both due to follow.
